Everyday Driving Tips

It’s no secret that a clean driving record can save you a significant bundle of cash every year on your auto insurance premiums.  If you’re a driver with a spotless record—free of accidents and speeding tickets—you can expect to save anywhere from 10-30 percent a year on your insurance premiums.

Although you may have aced your driver’s education class in high school, you should continue to refresh your knowledge about driving safety.  We’ve included some tips below for keeping you and your family safe and accident free on the roads.

Basic Safe Driving Strategies

  1. Always pay attention to the roadway first and foremost.  Keep conversation to a minimum with other passengers.
  2. Make sure your mirrors are properly adjusted at all times.
  3. Cell phone use is a proven risk elevator: Even talking with a hands-free device is very dangerous.  Try to keep your cell phone conversations out of your car as well.
  4. Use your seatbelt no matter the length of the trip.
  5. Keep as much distance as you can between your car and the car in front of you.  Room to maneuver is a critical safety requirement.
  6. Use added precaution at intersections.  Never assume that a vehicle is going to stop simply because of a red light or stoplight in its path.  Be very alert as to vehicles making turns in front of you as well.
